Opening: Nicholas Frederick’s Rain Delay

The Atrium Gallery is excited to welcome artist Nicholas Frederick, whose new exhibition, Rain Delay will open on June 9, with an opening reception from 6 - 8 p.m.

Says Frederick in his Artist Statement:

“This work is an attempt to distill the feeling of a summer rainstorm in Louisiana, a subject that has occupied me for many years. The way the heat gives way suddenly to a chilled, urgent breeze that seems to skim the ground, rolling in with the thunder, an electric expectancy in the air. The compression of space and perspective into a featureless purple plane in the heart of the storm, the rain on the edges catching the sunlight in a shimmering, nearly holographic curtain. The smell of the overheated asphalt as cold raindrops sizzle into steam, then coalesce into a freshet rushing to the Gulf. The chill, the torrent, the cathartic release. Everything washed clean.”

Frederick is a contemporary artist whose work is held in the permanent collections of Louisiana Sate University and the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art in New Mexico. After working as a preparator, registrar, and guest curator in art museums across the country, Frederick has returned to his native Acadiana to continue his art practice.

Frederick earned a BFA in painting and drawing from Louisiana State University and has been awarded several artist residencies and grants. His work has been shown in New York, New Mexico, Colorado and Vermont.

“Nicholas Frederick: Rain Delay” will be available for viewing at the Atrium Gallery from June 9 - July 9 (Tuesday through Saturday) from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
